A design for a new retail and office building that extends an existing downtown. Rather than repeating more “historic” looking buildings or using more modern/current designs, the idea was to come up with a design solution that mimicks how a downtown would have truly expanded. We chose to split the building into 2 distinctly separate buildings from 2 different periods – one is an early 1900’s bay window retail form and the other has a more “modern” 1930’s character. This lets the scale of the project be in keeping with the historic downtown and provides more visual diversity to continue to add to the character of downtown.
